AI and Color Analysis in Retail
In retail, personalization is transforming the relationship between customers, products, and stores. Thanks to AI, it’s possible to create experiences that interpret individual characteristics and translate them into more relevant recommendations throughout the shopping journey.
This opportunity gave rise to the project developed for Conad Nord Ovest: bringing color analysis into the store through a digital touchpoint that transforms color profile analysis into a new tool for guiding purchasing decisions.
The goal is to enrich the retail customer experience with a simple and engaging interaction that connects technology, personal characteristics, and product assortment.

From Product Selection to a Truly Personalized Experience
When faced with a wide selection, finding the right product can be challenging, especially in categories where color and individual characteristics influence the purchasing decision.
For Conad, the challenge was to introduce a new digital touchpoint capable of enhancing the in-store experience while also supporting customers in selecting products from the cosmetics category.
The design challenge was therefore twofold: to simplify the selection process for the customer and to transform the digital interaction into an engagement opportunity for the retailer, through an intuitive, scalable solution that could be integrated into the store environment.
The Solution: A Color Analysis Test That Transforms the Shopping Experience
Munogu designed an in-store Color Analysis Experience that uses a digital touchpoint to guide customers in discovering their color season.
Using a camera, the technology analyzes the facial color characteristics and identifies the user’s color profile. The result is then transformed into a personalized palette and can be used to recommend products that match the identified shades.
The goal is to make AI a tool that enhances the customer experience: not simply to display a result, but to help customers navigate the product selection through personalized product recommendations.
The concept was developed to provide a quick analysis within the store and link it to real-time purchase recommendations.
Customer Journey: From Face to Product in Three Steps
The experience was designed to be simple and easy to understand, even for those who have never taken a color analysis test.
01. Welcome
This touchpoint introduces the experience and invites the customer to discover their color season.
The opening screen explains in just a few seconds what will happen, how to participate, and what results will be obtained, reducing friction at the start of the experience.
02. Analysis
The interface guides the customer into the correct position in front of the camera.
Once the face is identified, the system begins the color analysis, taking into account various elements, including skin, eyebrows, hair, skin tone, and iris.
Throughout the process, feedback and messages guide the user and make it clear what the technology is doing.
03. Results and Product Recommendations
Value for the Retailer: From Engagement to Customer Relationships
The Armocromia Experience demonstrates how integrating AI into retail can go beyond process automation to become a tool for improving the relationship between customers and stores.
This is where the test becomes a customer engagement tool.
At the end of the analysis, the customer discovers their season and corresponding color palette. The profile can then be used to suggest products that align with their characteristics.
The final screen is designed to link the result directly to conversion by presenting recommended products and a CTA to proceed with the purchase in-store or online.
Instead of showing the same products to everyone, the experience can guide each customer toward a selection tailored to their own profile.
Specifically, the experience was designed with the goal of helping to increase Time in Store by up to 15%, thanks to an interaction that more fully engages the customer during their visit; to boost the Conversion Rate by up to 20% through personalized product recommendations; and to support a Retention Rate of up to 80% by encouraging return visits to the store or a subsequent online purchase.
The project thus opens up several opportunities:
- Personalization
Offering an experience tailored to the customer’s individual characteristics. - Customer engagement
Transforming the in-store visit into an interactive, distinctive, and memorable experience. - Conversion support
Reducing uncertainty in decision-making by linking the user’s profile to relevant products. - Cross-selling
Applying the same color profile to different categories and products. - Omnichannel
Linking the in-store experience to digital purchasing opportunities. - Retention
Creating a personalized service that can increase the perceived value of the in-store experience.
With the Armocromia Experience, we have thus explored a model in which computer vision, personalization, and product recommendations converge at a single in-store touchpoint.
A replicable and adaptable model for retailers, large-scale retailers, and brands that want to experiment with new ways of engaging with customers and transform the store into an increasingly interactive, personalized, and connected space.
